Introduce yourself! My name is Sonyi (Son-G) I'm 25 years old. I'm a Dominican born, Bronx raised journalist and I've got a radio show called, "InSpacewGee". I love being funny and dancing stupidly.
How do you express yourself creatively? I make jokes, and I write.
Describe an insecurity that you had while growing up. Has your perspective changed? If so, how did you overcome this insecurity?
I had insecurities with my hair texture. I had very kinky curly hair. People would say I was "Too light" to have "bad hair", so I used to get relaxers. I thought I overcame this insecurity by finally going natural, but I didn't fully, truly overcome it until I cut all of my hair off back by in February. I also had insecurities with my skin! I used to get these weird red, dry, itchy spots all over my body along with eczema. And for a long time, I didn't know what was going on with my body. My dad used to call me, "Rakiñosa" because I scratched so muchhh from the itching. At one point, there were 4 doctors in a room poking and prodding me without finding out what my condition was. They even took a tissue sample from my hip. They never got the results back to me and my mom and I eventually gave up. Somehow, the eczema symptoms completely disappeared and the red spots subsided, although I've still got a few. But they're not AS itchy.
Define Beauty
Beauty is what you have within. Beauty comes from your heart, the way you treat others and the way you treat yourself.
How would you describe your skin-type?
Face: Dry-Greasy? Idk if that makes any sense. Body: mostly dry. (Elbows ashy af)
How do you combat your personal skincare problems?
Face: I use this Dominican pomada called, "Inoderm". That's been my Holy Grail of skin care. Body: I'm not too good at moisturizing my body. Just soap and water. I avoid Dove soap, it makes me itchy.
What are some of your skincare beauty secrets?
Drink water! Face: Don't wear heavy makeup, wash at least twice a day (but don't odee cus you need that natural face oil gurl), hydrate/moisturize. Body: wear sunscreen, lather, get the dead skin off in shower.
2 do’s for skincare? Drink plenty of water. Moisturize.
2 don’ts for skincare? Don't use alcohol. Don't put on too much foundation/concealer.
How do you practice self-care?I talk to friends about mine and their emotional mental health. I reflect, read and I write.
