Introduce yourself!
I'm a 20-something digital and social media content creator living locationally independent between New York City, Seattle, London, and the rest of the world.
How do you express yourself creatively?
I like to think of myself of a Jill of many trades and when I'm feeling inspired, I grab my camera, my notebook, Photoshop, or just my singing voice and create art with whatever tool is at the forefront of my mind in that moment.
Describe an insecurity that you had while growing up. Has your perspective changed? If so, how did you overcome this insecurity?
I'm a transracial adoptee, so not only being the only the person of color in my hometown, but also being raised by white parents, was something that affected me a lot. I was the odd one out wherever I went for a long time. But as I got older and moved away from home and met more people like me and realized I didn't need to dwell on not being black or white enough for whatever group I am with. As long as I am myself, life is good.
Define Beauty
Beauty is you feeling your best self. It's not dependent on what outside voices have to say at all. If you feel beautiful, you are beautiful.
How would you describe your skin-type?
I have very, very dry skin, especially on my body. My face is a dry-oily combo depending on the weather.
How do you combat your personal skincare problems?
I try to give myself a fairly consistent routine that makes the potentiality of break outs less likely. And on the days when I just couldn't prevent a zit or a blemish, thank God for coverup! Basically, I like to keep it simple and not overthink my routine or my quick fixes, but I have a good sense of my skin and what works and doesn't and that helps in day-to-day life.
What are some of your skincare beauty secrets?
I like to keep my makeup as simple as possible so I avoid any extra reasons for my skin to break out. That's why you'll rarely see me wearing foundation. My skin needs to breathe so I go the simple route with eyeliner, eyebrows, mascara, and just a hint of highlighter. This way I can keep my problem areas like my chin and and jawline free of anything that might bring it extra blockage.
2 do’s for skincare?
1. Sheet masks all day, every day! Not really, but face masks are essential to self-care and soft skin. 2. Drink tons of water to make sure you're hydrated because that makes for healthier skin.
2 don’ts for skincare?
1. Don't pick at a zit, it will only make it worse! 2. Don't assume weird internet hacks will work on you. Toothpaste on acne doesn't work for most people. In fact, it made me break out worse when I tried it.
What motivates you to practice self-care consistently? To quote RuPaul, "'If you don't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?" I want to make sure I feel happy and loving on myself so I can be my best self to the rest of the world. I don't even want to skip even the little things that make me feel special and taken care of, because it's a hard world out there and I want to make it a little easier through actions that make me feel good.
