Introduce yourself!
Hi, I’m Maria! I am a New York-based storyteller/writer. I enjoy touching on topics such as sneakers, streetwear, music, lifestyle and more.
How do you express yourself creatively?
I express myself creatively through writing and sharing my thoughts on my social platforms.
Describe an insecurity that you had while growing up. Has your perspective changed? If so, how did you overcome this insecurity?
My body image overall was a major insecurity of mine while growing up. Up until high school, I was bullied due to my appearance. I was never slim and was considered “heavier” than most of my peers. Even as an adult, I’ve had to deal with rude cat-callers pointing out my figure and boyfriends blaming their infidelity on the way I looked.
It took a lot of self love, therapy and the genuine support of my friends and family for me to love myself as I am. I feel like I’ve come such a long way at appreciating my body. I have my moments where I feel insecure but once those thoughts creep in, I think about all the love I have in my life and how hard I’ve worked on building up my self esteem.
Define Beauty
Beauty has always been skin deep for me. Beauty is kindness, having good intentions, loving yourself, being good to others.
How would you describe your skin-type?
Combo for sure. Oily in the summer, dry in the winter.
How do you combat your personal skincare problems?
After finding out I am lactose intolerant, I’ve been forced to take a closer look at what I’m putting in my body. Things like too much dairy and processed sugar cause my hormones to go crazy and I start breaking out. It really just boils down to paying attention to what I consumer and how my body reacts to certain foods.
What are some of your skincare beauty secrets?
I love Laniege’s water sleeping mask. I wake up with a glow and my skin feeling super hydrated. I try my best to get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Drink lots of water. Take a probiotic daily. No dairy. There’s no point in buying expensive skincare products if I’m not doing any of the above.
2 do’s for skincare?
Drink a lot of water and invest in a good serum and moisturizer.
2 don’ts for skincare?
Don’t sleep with your makeup on and don't consumer foods that can trigger breakouts on your skin.
What motivates you to practice self-care consistently?
The more I practice self care, the deeper in love I become with the process and outcome
WUNDER BODY is cruelty free, and we love our pets. If you have a pet, tell us about them! - Pets can also be plants :)
No pets but I have a cactus plant, as well as a bamboo plant in my room -- which I believe has brought me good luck
What city/country do you represent? Based in NYC. Born in NJ, lived for most of my life in Tampa, FL. Parents are from Dominican Republic.
