#inMySkin - Chantal Diaz

Introduce yourself!

My name is Chantal. A young Dominicana from The Bronx. I’m the founder of Chantal Diaz Collection, a soy candle company inspired by feelings and feminine energy. I’m a believer of magic. I am flower lover. I am rebellious. I am the “honest” friend and I usually have all the tea.

How do you express yourself creatively?

Creativity is something that I always crave in my life. I’ve always had this obsession with taking a up craft, making it my own and then sharing it with the world. When I started Chantal Diaz Collection, I wanted my candles to be an extension of who I was, who I am, and who I will become. Creating different scents has been very therapeutic to me not only because I get to bring bliss to a home, but also discover different parts of myself by doing so.

Describe an insecurity that you had while growing up. Has your perspective changed? If so, how did you overcome this insecurity?

One thing I’ve learned is that there will always be this unrealistic idea of what your body should look like based on what is mainstream that year. It’s our job as parents, businesses, educators and a community to really celebrate each other’s diversity and unique body types...especially for all the young girls that look up to us. Growing up I was always insecure about my long legs. I hated wearing shorts and skirts. Now that I think about it, I sounded ridiculous! It wasn’t until the age of 20 that I discovered the power of confidence and finally started feeling comfortable in my own skin. Once I started to love my long legs, I was doing the Naomi Campbell walk every chance I got.

Define Beauty

Beauty lives within you. It's how you look at the world and how that translates in your soul. I grew up around really strong women that taught me the essence of self - love and most importantly how to see the beauty in every experience.

How would you describe your skin-type?

I definitely have combination skin. I have an oily T-zone and in other areas I’m very dry.

How do you combat your personal skincare problems?

If I eat horrible my skin feels it right away, therefore I try to eat as healthy as possible. Tea tree oil is my best friend when I’m breaking out. It puts my skin back on track when it needs a reboot.

I’m also a face masks lover. They can usually fix any life crisis. I love the J. Lo glow they bring to my skin. I’m here for it.

What are some of your skincare beauty secrets?

Manuka Honey has to be my number one beauty secret! I try to take a daily tablespoon or make some kind of facial mask with it. It’s packed with magical things for your skin, like vitamins B and C.

2 do’s for skincare?

1) Do drink water! I personally set reminders on my phones since I forget, but it’s truly essential!

2) Do use plant based skin products. I believe nature is always the answer.

2 don’ts for skincare?

1) Don’t go to bed with your make up on. That’s a strong #no

2)Don’t break the bank for your skincare routine. Most of it is overrated and overpriced. Support your local organic brands.

What motivates you to practice self-care consistently?

Self-care for me is essential to my mental health. If I don’t take a minute and remind myself to be present and love the process, my anxiety immediately kicks in and I physically can’t get anything done.

Nature has to be the biggest motivator in my self-care journey. It reminds me that flowers and trees need water and patience to grow. Just like nature, my body and mind need consistent nurturing.

WUNDER BODY is cruelty free, and we love our pets. If you have a pet, tell us about them! - Pets can also be plants :)

I have two cats, Sasha and Keke. They have two completely differently personalities, but they love each other. Keke is very Beyonce post-Lemonade and Sasha has a very angelic way to her like Solange in Cranes in the Sky.

What city/country do you represent? New York / Dominican Republic
