#inMySkin - Ashley Sadler

Introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Ashley Sadler. I’m an artist and I currently reside in Queens, NY.

How do you express yourself creatively? I usually express myself creatively by painting, writing and sharing my thoughts about my life experiences on my social media accounts.

Describe an insecurity that you had while growing up. Has your perspective changed? If so, how did you overcome this insecurity?
I’ve always been super insecure about my hands. It’s ironic because I have the ability to create so much magic with them, which I’m thankful for. But I’ve always felt like they were hard-working, manly looking hands. My perspective has changed as I’ve gotten older because everyday I’m learning to appreciate every part of me, and usually the things we hate about ourselves, nobody even notices.

Define Beauty

Beauty is always more than words. Beauty is what’s inside to me, how you treat people, how much you care about adding goodness to this world. Anyone can showcase outer beauty. Spreading your light and planting seeds with others just feels and looks so much more beautiful.

How would you describe your skin-type? I would think my skin type is a combination of dry and oily. It really depends on the weather for me.

How do you combat your personal skincare problems?

I try not to wear makeup too often. I used to be super insecure about my acne scars and cover up every single day and that never helps. Letting my skin breathe and maintaining a simple, natural routine has been working in my favor for the last few years.

What are some of your skincare beauty secrets? GRAPESEED OIL! Natural oils in general have saved my life but I LIVE by this particular kind. Everyone’s different but it’s a perfect moisturizer for me (not too heavy as an oil) and helps scarring!

2 do’s for skincare? Wash your face every morning/night and DRINK WATER.

2 don’ts for skincare? Don’t sleep with your makeup on, don’t over do it. Keep it simple, a lot of the time less is more.

What motivates you to practice self-care consistently?

The love I have for myself. I’ve reached a point in my life where being aware of how I feel internally comes as a first priority. I’ve battled mild anxiety and depression, so I’ve learned that moving unintentionally and not caring about myself first will usually make me unhappy in some way. Self-love looks like many things for me, whether it’s giving myself a facial, holding myself accountable for my destructive ways, writing a gratitude list or reading a book to exercise my brain. So I think you could say that I’ve learned to motivate myself to practice self-love consistently.
