Introduce yourself!
Hi! I'm Areisa Ryan, 25 yo medical student and blogger.
How do you express yourself creatively? I have a little joke that I've always been left brained by day and right brained by night. I'm a medical student by trade but I honestly dabble in everything, from painting to modeling. In college, I started this collective called Project Chocolate which was really instrumental in helping me find my confidence and express myself creatively as an undergraduate biology major. Now, I use my medical and lifestyle instagram as a way to bring information and beauty both into my life and my followers'.
Describe an insecurity that you had while growing up. Has your perspective changed? If so, how did you overcome this insecurity?
Looking back, I don't think that there was one particular insecurity that dominated. It was more-so a global lack of confidence, which manifested itself in lots of ways. I hated my skin, it was too dark. I hated my hair, it was too coarse. I hated my boobs, and a whole litany of other things. My perspective is that your insecurities don't really wash away as you get older, they just become less important. I like my skin, i love my hair, my boobs and above all, I really like me. Those things are a part of the package. It's a process of practicing self love and positive talk every day.
Define Beauty
Beauty for me is focusing on the best parts of everything you lay your eyes on, including yourself.
How would you describe your skin-type?
well behaved combination skin - for that I am thankful lol
How do you combat your personal skincare problems? I think when I turned 21, my skin definitely changed. Last year I began incorporating products with retinol and hyaluronic acid at night, and that actually has been a game changer for me.
What are some of your skincare beauty secrets?
gentle exfoliation and water!!
2 do’s for skincare?
1. Get a facial cleansing brush and be diligent at night about removing all the day's dirt even if you didn't wear any makeup that day. 2. SLEEP
2 don’ts for skincare?
1. I personally HATE energy drinks and soda. They have detrimental effects on my skin personally. 2. I know some people will hate me but *whispers* products like black soap and papaya soap are just too harsh for your facial skin. I've received many a chemical burn on my face from these products, natural and all.
What motivates you to practice self-care consistently?I know what its like to have pretty severe depression and insecurities, practicing self-care has become mandatory in my life. It reaffirms my reason to continue living and loving my life, because I know how low I've been before. Healing is great!
WUNDER BODY is cruelty free, and we love our pets. If you have a pet, tell us about them! - Pets can also be plants :)
I have soooo many plants. Succulents, vine plants, bromeliads, spider plants a bunch of babies that I've transplanted, taken with me to internships in different states (lol) . I love my plants.
What city/country do you represent? Trinidad and Indianapolis - Caribbean born, Midwest bred
