Introduce yourself!
Hi my name is Ashley Jacklyn, I'm a Latina (Taíno) photographer, micro- influencer and a mental health warrior!
How do you express yourself creatively?
I express myself creatively by using Instagram, photography and speaking up about my mental health on my Instagram account. I like to push myself out of my comfort zone and force others to understand and empathize.
Describe an insecurity that you had while growing up. Has your perspective changed? If so, how did you overcome this insecurity?
I had a huge gap between my teeth and was bullied because of it. My perspective changed because I was able to get braces and only needed to wear them for 5 months because my teeth were actually really healthy. But, I think even before I got the braces, I started to love my gap because it made me unique looking and very edgy, haha!
Define Beauty
Beauty is beyond words and the physical. I believe beauty is within the spirit; it's visible during moments of vulnerability and strength. It grows with each act of kindness and love given to others and to our beautiful mother Earth. The word beauty has been taken over by the media as a physical characteristic only few have but we all have beauty.
How would you describe your skin-type? My skin-type is dry and red since I have a mild form of lupus, so very sensitive to certain products.
How do you combat your personal skincare problems? I watch what I eat since a lot of sugar and milk products cause rashes. I wash my face everyday (with different products so I don't dry out my face) and when I'm having a lupus flare I just allow my face to go through the process and let it breathe, only putting sunscreen on it.
What are some of your skincare beauty secrets? Drink a lot of water, wash your face at night, even if you don't have makeup on. Moisturize as much as possible and less is always more.
2 do’s for skincare? Water and sunscreen
2 don’ts for skincare? Sleeping in makeup and using harmful products on your face because a popular influencer is using it. ALWAYS RESEARCH!
What motivates you to practice self-care consistently?
Having a mental illness really forces me to practice self-care everyday. It forces me to be accountable for my actions, thoughts & emotions and teaches me what my body, mind and spirit need.
WUNDER BODY is cruelty free, and we love pets. If you have a pet, tell us about them!
I have three pets, one is a 7 year old yorkie-bichon mix named Emmy, I have a 4 year old Corgi named Aubree and a wild 2 year old aloe vera plant named Ala, haha! :]
