February is here which means hearts, joy, and love, and most of the time this center around people involved in relationships. But why can’t it be for everyone? Instead of being bitter because you’re the only one out of your friends without a boo, or even if you have a significant other but you aren’t feeling happy with yourself, take some time to practice self-love this Valentine’s Day. Here are some easy and fun ways to give yourself that extra boost of confidence and care you’re longing for…
Treat yourself: whether it be to the spa for a massage or facial, or the salon for a new hairstyle and a Mani/Pedi. Even if it’s to McDonald’s or Dairy Queen for a late-night ice cream cone and snack. TREAT YOURSELFIt is so important to care for yourself every once in a while, and it never has to be costly. Anything that can make you feel good and put a smile on your face, can be your version of treating yourself.
GALentine’s Day: Grab some of your closest girlfriends, a good rom-com (or your favorite type of movie or TV series), a bottle of wine and some takeout and indulge. There’s nothing better than love from your best friends, especially on the one day of the year to celebrate love. Gossip about the cute boy at the coffee shop or the most recent celeb breakup, laugh until you feel like you have abs, and snuggle up on the couch together.
Take yourself out: Get tickets for that new movie you’ve been dying to see, make reservations at your favorite restaurant. Whether it’s the nicest spot in town, or delivery from Domino's – treat yourself to your dream Valentine’s day. You don’t need a significant other to take you out to make you feel wanted. Want yourself.
Shop til you drop: take yourself to a local boutique, mall, or street market and get lost. Find cute and unique tchotchkes for yourself or your home, a new necklace or bracelet, or even a cool printed pair of pants. Buy yourself or your friends and family gifts. Anything that makes you and your closet/home smile.
Even though there is a stigma around Valentine’s Day for couples, there is no reason you can’t change that stigma to loving yourself, or your girlfriends. Valentine’s Day is only what you make it, so make it special for yourself. Loving yourself is just as important as giving love, if not the most important aspect in creating healthy relationships.
