Digital Detox: Unpluging and Making More Memories

Updated: Mar 25, 2019

Digital devices are a big part of our life. We use them in our personal lives and even at work, making it difficult to take a break from them. At least, I know that’s the case for me.

If you follow me for a day, you’ll see how often I jump from screen to screen: scrolling through social media feeds to typing away on my laptop and watching TV at night.

I know I’m not alone, because I see all around me. Little kids watching videos on their iPads. Friends and family eye-glued while eating or watching movie.

But what’s my point in telling you this?

We need a break—a #digitaldetox.

I’m not only saying this because today’s the National Day of Unplugging. I’m also saying it because it’s true. I don’t remember the last time I spent 24 hours without a digital device. When was the last time for you?

If it wasn’t any time within the last 3 months, I hope you’ll considering going on a digital detox with me for at least 24 hours to take a break from the digital world, because we need it.

Sure, technology is awesome, but it can be addictive. Just like anything else, too much of something is not healthy for you, so unplug and unwind. It can help you destress, reconnect with people around you, and be more present. I know it’s helped me realize a few things.

One is realizing how disengaged I am when I’m with my family and friends. I realize we’re on our phones when we should be doing something together. It’s makes me think how I miss the old times when we were younger. They were memorable memories, and when I look back on my life, I want to have more memorable memories like those to, so tell me.

What kind of memories would you like to make this year?
